How Med Guru Pre-Med cites every answer

The order matters more than the citation

An AI that writes an answer and then attaches a reference is doing decoration. The claim was already formed; the citation is chosen to fit. If the model was wrong, a plausible reference makes it more convincing, not less.

Retrieval first inverts that. Your question searches a shared library of pre-med science textbooks, the most relevant passages are pulled out, and the answer is written from those passages. The reference is not evidence gathered in support of an answer — it is the source the answer came from.

If a claim has no passage behind it, there is nothing to cite — and that is where the tool should say so, not write a sentence anyway.

What happens between your question and the answer

• You ask in your own words. “How do I find a buffer’s pH with Henderson–Hasselbalch?” — phrased the way you would ask a lab partner, not typed as a search query.
• The library is searched. Not the open web: a fixed set of science textbooks, indexed page by page, so every result traces back to a real page in a real book.
• Passages are selected. The ones that actually bear on the question — for the buffer, a biochemistry text’s pages on weak acids and their conjugate bases — with book and page carried along.
• The answer is written from them, with each claim tagged by a numbered reference.
• You can open the page. Tap a reference and the page image opens: the actual page the passage came from, so you can read the surrounding paragraph and judge for yourself.

Why opening the page is the part that matters

A citation you cannot check is a claim about a citation. Plenty of tools show a book title and a page number; far fewer show you the page. The difference is whether checking costs you one tap or an afternoon in the library.

It also changes how you study. Ask why tertiary substrates favor SN1 over SN2, and the answer cites an organic chemistry text: the tertiary carbocation is relatively stable, and three bulky groups block the nucleophile’s backside attack. Open that page, and the paragraphs around the claim are where the rest lives — how the solvent and the strength of the nucleophile tip the balance too. That is the adjacent fact the question did not ask about, and a passage on the MCAT might.

When the library falls short

None of this makes the tool omniscient. The library has edges, and a question outside them is told so instead of getting an answer assembled from memory. That is a deliberate trade: a smaller set of answers you can verify beats a larger set you cannot.

• The science is covered. Biology, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and Psychology & Sociology.
• CARS is not. Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills is outside the library, so the assistant does not coach it.
• Logistics and admissions are not answered. MCAT format, scoring, dates, registration and medical-school admissions get a plain “not covered here” and a pointer to the official source.

It is also not a substitute for judgment. An AI can be wrong, even with a source in hand. Med Guru Pre-Med is a study aid for your science courses and the MCAT, and a cited passage is a starting point for understanding rather than the end of the question.

How to check a claim

• Tap the number. The page it came from opens as an image.
• Find the sentence. The claim should be on the page in substance, not just the topic it belongs to.
• Match the conditions. Tertiary, not secondary. A weak acid, not a strong one. The pKa, not the pH. The answer has to agree with the page on the details.
• Read one paragraph further. The caveat often sits just past the line that was cited.
